Dhar Mann is about nurturing an online circle of support.
As the YouTube star – known to his more than 17 million subscribers for his inspirational videos featuring stories with positive messages – recently shared, he was motivated to build his own community based on his own childhood experience.
“Growing up, all I wanted was friends, and like many young people, I struggled with that throughout middle school and high school,” he exclusively told E! News at the screening of his film An Unforgettable Christmas on December 18th. “And because I’ve never really felt comfortable building friendships in the real world, I turned to social media to build a community.”
And as Dhar noted, although people may think that content creators are “really outgoing and have these big personalities,” many of these leaders are actually introverts — which he sees as more than encouraging.
“I think it’s really inspiring to be able to say, ‘Hey, even if you don’t have an overblown personality and even if you’re such a quiet, shy kid,” added the 38-year-old. “‘You can still build a community of millions of people through social media.'”
