Fallon Sherrock believes she can take positives from her early exit from the Darts World Cup and insists she will “come back stronger” if she can return to Alexandra Palace in the future.
Sherrock, who made history three years ago by becoming the first woman to win games in the competition, was eliminated in the first round for the second straight season after beating Ricky Evans 3-1.
The ‘Queen of the Palace’ won the opening set and secured the early advantage in the second, only for Evans to hit a 122 finish in the bullseye on his way to level the hard-fought match.

Sherrock wasted darts to win the next two sets, allowing Evans to last through both in final leg decisions to set a second-round meeting with Masters champion Joe Cullen.
“I think it was a stronger performance than what I’ve put in all year, so I can’t really moan about that,” Sherrock said after the game.

“Obviously I’m disappointed not to have won but at the end of the day it’s things I can take back and use as a learning curve. If I get there and qualify for next year, I’ll know what to work on.
“Ricky’s walk-on [Evans] was funny to see him coming as Santa Claus. Ricky will always have a fun attitude towards a game, it was a lot of fun playing in that situation. I’m disappointed with the loss but I’ll come back stronger.
Sherrock won the inaugural Betfred Women’s World Matchplay title in July and won two events at the World Series circuit, with the 28-year-old aiming to secure her PDC Tour Card next month.

“Hopefully this experience will help me in the long run for years to come,” Sherrock added. “There are some tweaks I need to work on in my game, but hopefully all of these experiences will help me become a better player.
“I will be going to Q School in January. There will definitely be more practice and I will make myself available for the opportunities that we women can get. If I get the opportunities and progress in that way [winning a Tour Card]That’s my plan for 2023.”
Evans: “Sherrock deserved to win!”
Averaging slightly higher than her playing partner, Sherrock impressed through big waves of competition, with Evans – who made his appearance in Shakin’ Stevens’ ‘Merry Christmas Everyone’ while sporting a Santa Claus beard – admitting he was lucky to make progress.

“I knew it was going to be tough, but I didn’t expect it to be that tough!” Evans told InNewCL Sports. “She is good! People cheer because a lady is playing, but they don’t respect how good she actually is at darts.
“She was the better player in this game! I got away with it and I’m so happy to win – I’m absolutely thrilled. She missed doubles, she missed too many doubles and I took my chance and that’s the story of my career.”
Although the match was a marked improvement on Sherrock’s performances of late, InNewCL Sports’ John Part believes she won’t be entirely happy until she gets back to winning ways on the biggest stage.

“I thought it was a pretty even competition and I think Ricky did better than normal – he got 48 percent in doubles, which is really an excellent performance,” Part said. “From a bad start at that speed beating the double is really a good job.
“Fallon, she can be pleased with how she handled the game, but she will certainly go back to the drawing board and work on the doubles and fine tuning.
“That was a good sign for her but she wants the match to win and she won’t be happy at all that she had a lead and didn’t go ahead and win the match, certainly not on the doubles missed.”
