Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson offers a glimpse into the future of the Black Adam franchise.
On December 20, amid changes in DC Studios’ film universe after James Gunn and Peter Safran were named co-CEOs of the company, the actor announced that there will be no sequel to his 2022 superhero film in the near future.
“My passionate friends, I wanted to give you a long-awaited update on Black Adam regarding the character’s future in the new DC Universe,” Johnson said tweeted Dec. 20. “James Gunn and I have bonded, and Black Adam will not be in her first chapter of storytelling. However, DC and Seven Bucks have agreed to continue exploring the most valuable ways Black Adam can be used in future chapters of the DC Multiverse.”
Johnson said the move represents both Gunn and the studio’s “vision of DCU through her creative lens.”
The actor, who has been associated with Black Adam for over a decade, also expressed his appreciation for the “unremitting hard work” that went into the making of Black Adam, as well as the fan support since its October release.
