Claressa Shields has never lost in a professional boxing ring. Shields looked spectacular against Savannah Marshall at a landmark event for women’s boxing last year.

But Natasha Jonas isn’t afraid to take on anyone, including the American star.

“She has now won three world titles. She doesn’t want a tick-over. She wants the biggest name possible,” promoter Ben Shalom told InNewCL Sports.

Natasha Jonas is desperate to get revenge on Katie Taylor and her trainer Joe Gallagher thinks she can win by KO.

Jonas climbed three weight classes last year and unified three major super welterweight titles in three fights. Shields is the undisputed middleweight champion but could drop a weight to box Jonas.

It’s a division where Shields was previously undisputed when she brought out Marie Eve Dicaire, who was also Jonas’ last opponent, in 2021.

“She wants the biggest fights. We won’t rush it. There are names like [Mikaela] Mayer, shields, [Cecilia] Braekhus,” said Shalom.

Natasha Jonas discusses her options after taking a break from boxing, explaining that she’s “not afraid to fight the best.”

Braekhus, a former undisputed welterweight champion of the world, is expected to fight WBA titlist Terri Harper.

Mayer lost a close unification superfeatherweight to Alycia Baumgardner on the Shields-Marshall undercard in October, although it’s unclear if she would move up to superwelter.

“Tasha is a big name and Mayer needs a way back. I think Mayer is looking for big names, big fighters, whether or not she can get that Baumgardner rematch, we’ll see,” Shalom said.

Jonas’ trainer Joe Gallagher told InNewCL Sports: “Natasha’s skills bring different things to the table than Savannah does. It’s a daunting task. Claressa, people say she’s the greatest fighter of all time. Look what she did, she’s a phenomenal fighter, she’s one of my favorite fighters in the sport today.”

But he added: “Natascha has always wanted to compete with the best.

“If she can’t get Katie [Taylor], she wants Claressa. That just tells you everything you need to know about Natasha. She wants to fight the best.

Super welterweight world champion Natasha Jonas reflects on her win over Marie-Eve Dicaire and talks about her goals for the future.

“Someone out there is always someone’s Kryptonite,” he continued. “You have to be there to win it. Natasha just wants to get her chance and opportunity.

“Whoever, whenever, says Tasha, she’s ready.

“It’s just an amazing story Natasha Jonas, who knows where it will end?”

Marshall wants a second Shields fight

The stars of the sport want to keep pushing forward in 2023 as well.

“They all want the big fights. We could see that [Shields-Marshall] rematch,” promoter Ben Shalom also told InNewCL Sports.

Marshall is confident that she can change her approach and have a different fight with Shields the second time around.

“Savannah wants it. Savannah doesn’t want to mess around. She will have her own reasons for doing this and that gives me confidence,” Shalom said.

“But it was such a big fight last time. I look forward to getting Savannah back. She’s chewing on it now and it’s only massive fights that interest her.

“She was at the top. She sold out the O2 and made headlines. She doesn’t want to come down from it. She wants the biggest occasions and Claressa Shields is that. She’s desperate for this fight.”

The first fight garnered a huge television audience. That means Marshall remains a key option for Shields as well.

“Savannah wants it. There was always the rematch clause. Let’s see,” Shalom said.
