Watford had to work towards their first win in six games when Ken Semas’ double finally gave them a 3-2 win over West Brom and propelled them into the Championship play-offs.
An unpredictable encounter came to life when Sema brought the opener home midway through the first half, just moments after Watford’s first touches in the West Brom box.
West Brom turned the game upside down briefly out of nowhere in the second half when Conor Townsend leveled from a corner won by the night’s first shot on target.
But their subsequent dominance was punctured when Ismael Kone’s deflected shot fell kindly for Ismaila Sarr to score a further 10 minutes later.
Wallace then capitalized on another moment of chaos and finished – from a minor offside position – after a hospital pass from Daniel Bachmann caught Hamza Choudhury.
The third of three goals in 12 minutes – and what would prove to be the winner – was suitably unpolished as Sema’s powerful strike found Erik Pieters to fool Josh Griffiths and give Watford a third lead.
They would finally comfortably rise to fifth place in the Championship, now five points ahead of a West Brom side, four points from the play-offs and without a win in three games.
