Watford celebrates Ken Sema's goalUntil the win against West Bromwich Albion, Watford had not won in the Championship since 14 January

Watford edged out a spirited side from West Bromwich Albion in an entertaining clash at Vicarage Road to move back into the Championship play-off places.

Albion equalized twice after falling back but were eventually beaten by a shot from Ken Sema which was deflected off Erik Pieters, leaving them 10th in the table and four points from a top six place.

Sema had put Watford ahead in the first half and fired high into the net from close range after Darnell Furlong blocked a first attempt by Keinan Davis.

A double substitution at half-time paid off for the Baggies as left-back Conor Townsend emerged from a corner in the penalty area and acrobatically maneuvered past Daniel Bachmann.

Watford winger Ismaila Sarr – who scored from her own half in August’s 1-1 draw at The Hawthorns – appeared to have made the crucial contribution with a fine first finish into the corner, only for the Hornets to lose that lead as Jed Wallace could capitalize on Bachmann’s bad faint to equalize.

But ex-Albion coach Slaven Bilic was happy to win against his former club when Sema smashed in from the right and his shot from the edge of the box flew past defender Pieters.

Both goalkeepers made clever saves in the barrage of second-half goals, while Sema had ruled out an offside attempt just after Wallace made it 2-2.

Watford ended their run without a win after five games fifth in the table before meeting second-placed Sheffield United on Saturday, while the Baggies will look to end their recent setback if they welcome Middlesbrough on form.
