England tempo bowler Tymal Mills revealed that his retirement from the Big Bash League came as a result of his two-year-old daughter suffering a stroke just before a flight to Australia.

The left-arm Seamer, an unused squad member when England won the T20 World Cup in Australia last month, pulled out of a planned stint at Perth Scorchers, citing a “family emergency” as the reason.

Mills explained on Wednesday that he and his family were at the airport when his daughter fell ill earlier this month, but the 30-year-old posted a photo to Instagram of them leaving the hospital.

Alongside the picture, he wrote: “Christmas home after the most awful 11 days. Just as we were about to leave the airport for Australia, our daughter suffered a stroke.

“She lost full use of the left side of her body and we were told they could not predict how much she would regain.

“Despite all the challenges she has faced, our little girl has surprised everyone with her recovery to the point where we were discharged as she bounced and bounced from the hospital.

“She still has a lot of rehab, meds and scans ahead of her, but we’re so grateful to be where we are now.”

Mills played seven games as the Scorchers won last season’s title and was signed by the club in the first draft player earlier this year.
