Good news and bad news. The good news? We have our first official look at Marvel Studios’ The Marvels starring Brie Larson, Iman Vellani and Teyonah Parris. The bad news? This first look reveals that the film, originally scheduled for a July 28 release, has been pushed back to November 10.
Here is the poster…
That’s certainly a bummer for anyone who was looking forward to hurrying up and seeing Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel, and Monica Rambeau together on screen, but there’s a small silver lining. To fill in the main summer release date vacated with The Marvels, Disney pushed back its Haunted Mansion film by a few weeks from August 11th to July 28th.
Directed by Nia DaCosta, The Marvels is a sequel to Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel and WandaVision. We already saw a taste of this at the end of Ms. Marvel, when Captain Marvel (Larson) shows up in Kamala Kahn’s (Vellani) bedroom. Disney showed some footage from the film at D23 last year and it looked amazing. Here’s what happened:
Footage begins on a SABER space station with Monica Rambeau (Parris) investigating an energy event for Nick Fury. She touches this blue wall and gets shot backwards. “Captain Rambeau? Captain Rambeau!” Anger screams as the lifeless spacesuit levitates toward the window. And if it gets close enough, it’s… Kamala Khan. In Rambeau’s suit. She screams and then says, “Oh, Nick Fury! Is that Avengers technology?”

Right now we see the scene of Captain Marvel in Kamala’s room from Ms. Marvel set to “Intergalactic” by the Beastie Boys. Rambeau and Fury show up at the Khan household asking if Kamala is home and she freaks out. Rambeau explains that their energies are somehow connected. She can manipulate light energy and Kamala says “I’ll show you everything” she can while her whole family screams “No!”.
Captain Marvel is in their house now and she tells Monica not to call her that because she used to change her diapers (she was friends with her mom, remember?). “I’m very happy for you,” says Mrs. Khan. “But where’s my daughter?” Monica says she’s where Captain Marvel just was, and then we see Kamala on a spaceship with Goose the Flerken.
There is an action sequence in the Khan house; All three women fighting together on a ship, we see them all together in super suits (yes, even Rambeau), just a lot of action with all of them. Kamala then asks “Are we a team?” and Monica and Carol say no.
Seriously, the movie looks amazing and having to wait another four months for it is definitely a bummer. But hopefully the wait will be worth it.
