Taylor Swift is one step closer to an Oscar filling an empty spot on her award shelf — but not for All Too Well.
The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences has announced its shortlists for multiple 2023 Oscar categories — and there’s some good and bad news for Swifties. Taylor’s road to Oscar winning through her short All Too Well, which starred Sadie Sink and Dylan O’Brien, came to an abrupt halt when she was not among the 15 finalists still in the running to win one Secure nomination for Best Live-Action Short Film.
However, the Grammy winner is still in contention in a more well-known category: music. Taylor’s song “Carolina” from “Where the Crawdads Sing” remains in the running for best original song. At the Oscars 2023, Taylor could get her first nomination after all. She’s not the only pop superstar on the original song shortlist, however.
The 15 remaining songs include Rihanna’s subdued “Lift Me Up” from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Oscar-winning actress Lady Gaga’s power ballad “Hold My Hand” from Top Gun: Maverick, and Selena Gomez for My Mind & Me” from the documentary of the same name.
