Taylor Fritz becomes the first American since Andy Roddick to finish in the top five during the week of September 7-13, 2009.
The current world No. 7, fresh from his fifth career title at the Delray Beach Open on Sunday, will rise to No. 5 in the rankings on Monday, February 27 as both Andrey Rublev and Rafael Nadal drop 500 points from their rankings in this week.
Rublev at No. 5 and Nadal at No. 6 will not defend those points this week.
Fritz will have to play defense afterwards as the American is set to lose 1,000 points from his BNP Paribas Open title on March 20. His performance at this tournament, where he reached the semifinals in 2021 and won the title in 2022, will be critical.
Whatever happens then, it’s cause for celebration that Fritz, one of 11 American men currently ranked in the top-50, has made the jump. The 25-year-old Southern California native is 11-3 on the season and 57-24 with four titles since early 2022.
