Spoty Team of the Year Winner - The Lionesses

England’s Lionesses have been named InNewCL Sports Personality Team of the Year 2022, while head coach Sarina Wiegman has been named Coach of the Year.

Wiegman led England to victory at the European Championship, the nation’s first major trophy in women’s football, in the summer.

England are unbeaten in 26 games since Wiegman’s appointment in 2021.

Captain Leah Williamson’s victory over Germany was also England’s first major football trophy since the men’s triumph at the 1966 World Cup.

Wiegman, 53, appointed in 2021 after winning Euro 2017 with the Netherlands, led England to a famous win in July that catapulted women’s football in England into the limelight.

The Lionesses won all six of their EURO matches, topped their group and beat Spain and Sweden to reach a final against Germany.

They celebrated a dramatic 2-1 win at Wembley, with Ella Toone scoring the opening goal before Chloe Kelly bagged the famous winner in extra time.

They then qualified for the 2023 World Cup with a 100 percent record without conceding a goal.

England’s men won the Team of the Year award last year and Gareth Southgate became Manager of the Year after their own EURO campaign where they reached the final but were beaten by Italy on penalties.
