Samsung’s best-selling smartphone series has been the A5x for quite some time. But so far it hasn’t been the top dog of the A-series, that honor was reserved for the A7x. Well, according to a new rumour, that is set to change next year as there will be no more A7x device.

That’s right, the A73 was apparently the last A7x model ever made, as Samsung won’t be releasing an A74 in 2023, leaving the Galaxy A54 as the headliner of the A-series in terms of both retail appeal and sheer specs.

While other upcoming Ax4 phones have been leaked, nothing of the sort has happened to the A74, and that’s supposedly due to the simple fact that there’s no A74 in development, and there never will be.

This may sound strange, but consider that the Galaxy A73 has already been marginalized in the Samsung portfolio and has been released in a smaller number of countries than the A72 before it. So maybe the story of the A73 was a foreshadowing of what was inevitably going to happen with the A74.

There’s also no word on a Galaxy S22 FE or S23 FE leaving an odd (and rather large) price gap between the A54 and the S23, wide open to Chinese rivals. It’s a questionable strategy at best, but maybe Samsung has a plan – to sell the S22 at an even bigger discount and pocket it there? We’ll have to wait for the launch of the S23 to find out. Luckily that’s only a few weeks away, now it’s rumored to be happening on February 1st.
