Before you make any transfers this week, take a look at what your squad looks like for matchweeks 25, 27 and 28.
Arsenal, Liverpool, Everton and Wolves all double in matchweek 25, while Manchester United, Newcastle United, Brighton and Brentford all go empty-handed.
Brighton and Brentford then join Crystal Palace and Southampton in doubling in Matchweek 27.
The problem is that Brighton, Brentford and Southampton could well go away empty-handed along with Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham in matchweek 28. These games are dependent on the results of the FA Cup fifth round, which takes place just before matchweek 25.
You may want to use your Free Hit chip if you still have it to navigate your way through game week 28, and there is a viable strategy you could use to wildcard game week 27 to help yourself preparing for a bank boost in game week 29, that should be a double game week for a number of clubs, and playing the free hit in between.
This all sounds pretty complicated, but this is the time of the season when planning ahead really comes into play.
One team that we already know will play in both game weeks 25 and 28 is Chelsea.
FPL managers have already amassed Kepa Arrizabalaga as a cheap goalkeeper and Reece James is their best player at the moment.
Let me also point you to centre-back Benoit Badiashile at just £5m and Joao Felix, who is listed as a forward in the FPL and has already appreciated to £7.6m after scoring against West Ham.
Should you consider Benoit Badiashile? He’s probably less likely to be rested for the Premier League given he’s not registered for the Champions League
Manchester City are definitely in Gameweek 25, but we don’t know anything about Gameweek 28 yet.
It will be very tempting to play for Kevin de Bruyne or Riyad Mahrez this week following their Doubles Week 23 successes, but be aware the rotation could strike anytime with the Champions League on City’s horizon again.
They have a trip to RB Leipzig between Premier League games against Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth next week so backing on a City player to start against Bournemouth in matchweek 25 could be risky if you might like people Kieran Trippier and Marcus have Rashford sitting on the bench in an empty game week.
Saying that the benefit of owning a City attacker can be huge and Mahrez would certainly be my pick among them at the moment.
I think it’s probably prudent to stay away from this City defense at the moment as it’s very difficult to predict who will start from week to week and they’ve only kept two clean sheets in their last 11 Premier League games played Defenders who have delivered a single offensive return this season!
So let’s be bold and pick Liverpool players for their double match week 25 with games away against Crystal Palace and home against Wolves.
In any normal season we would look to ensure we had three Liverpool assets for such a double game week and we would probably also consider Mohamed Salah as a triple captain.
That’s not the case this time around because Liverpool have been struggling so far but there was encouragement in Monday night’s 2-0 win over Everton and Salah would still be my number one target if you can afford it.
If not then Darwin Nunez would be my next pick but it will be worth watching as they line up again this weekend in Newcastle with Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino to rival Nunez and Cody Gakpo in those attacking positions.
Playing a punt against Trent Alexander-Arnold or Andy Robertson is a bigger risk given Liverpool have only kept six clean sheets so far this season, but both still have that attacking potential and Alexander-Arnold was unlucky not to have an assist got for Gakpo’s goal in the Merseyside derby.
Liverpool play Manchester United at home in matchweek 26, followed by a trip to Bournemouth in matchweek 27, but they could go away empty-handed in matchweek 28 if Fulham beat Leeds United in the FA Cup – if not then it will be a home game against Fulham for she .
Leicester City’s fixture list looks tricky but goals are flowing now that James Maddison is back in the team and there is a real difference there as Maddison, Harvey Barnes and Kelechi Iheanacho are all owned by less than 5% of managers .
Ivan Toney is another obvious target, despite Brentford’s matchweek 25 gap and potential matchweek 28 gap as games take place against Crystal Palace, Fulham, Everton and Southampton in those weeks.
Just be warned he currently has eight yellow cards for the season, so add a few and that will be a costly two-week suspension.
Don’t make a transfer this week if you don’t have to then you have two free transfers in doubles week 25 and I think I’ll give Erling Haaland my captain’s armband back for Manchester City’s Nottingham Forest game.
However, make sure you field a good vice-captain this week in case he’s absent and there are plenty of options – an Arsenal attacker away at Aston Villa, Rashford v Leicester, Kaoru Mitoma at home v Fulham or maybe Felix for Chelsea home against southampton
