Octavia Spencer mourns the loss of a friend.
The ‘Hidden Figures’ star paid tribute to the late General Hospital actress Sonya Eddy following her death on December 19 at the age of 55.
“My friend @sonyaeddy passed away last night,” Spencer wrote on Instagram on Dec. 20. “The world has lost another creative angel. She will be missed by her legions of @generalhospitalabc fans. My thoughts and prayers are with her loved ones, friends and fans!”
E! News has reached out to Eddy’s rep for comment. An official cause of death was not announced.
Eddy had served as Nurse Epiphany Johnson at General Hospital since 2006 and has also had stints on Issues That Can’t and Fresh Off the Boat. General Hospital executive producer Frank Valentini also confirmed the news of Sonya’s death, adding that he was “heartbroken at the loss of the incredible @sonyaeddy.”
“I really loved her, not only as an actress but also as a friend,” Valentini said tweeted Dec. 20. “The lights in the middle of the nurses’ station are fading a bit now, but their spirit and light will live on both on the show and on our set. On behalf of the entire #GeneralHospital cast and crew, we send our deepest condolences to their family, friends and fans. She will be greatly missed.”
