Manchester United have triggered year-long options to extend the contracts of Marcus Rashford, Luke Shaw, Diogo Dalot and Fred until the end of the 2023/24 season.

It is also understood that the same measures have not been taken for David de Gea’s contract as the club are in positive talks with the Spain keeper over a potential new deal.

Following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo and the approaching transfer market in January, Manchester United are looking for strikers but there’s a significant chance they won’t sign anyone next month.

InNewCL Sports News has been told that PSV Eindhoven striker Cody Gakpo, who has been a summer target, is one of the few strikers United have been interested in.

Gakpo impressed at the World Cup, scoring three goals for the Netherlands in Qatar before they were eliminated on penalties by Argentina in the quarter-finals.

According to Louis van Gaal, Cody Gakpo has everything it takes after the Dutch striker scored for the third straight World Cup.

United are wary of unrealistic assessments of potential January targets – especially after a World Cup.

PSV director of football Marcel Brands says any deal for the 23-year-old “must be a record transfer” for the Eredivisie club. So sticking with Rashford will be key to United’s push into the Premier League top four, at least in the short term.

The England star, who has been linked with Paris St Germain, is United’s top scorer this season with eight goals in all competitions and scored three as his country progressed to the World Cup quarter-finals in Qatar.

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag opens up on why he thinks Marcus Rashford and Harry Maguire deserve their World Cup nominations.

After struggling with his form last season, Erik ten Hag seems to have gotten the best out of the striker, which may give the United No10 a reason to stay at the club.

Rashford and the rest of United will restart the Premier League season on December 27 when they welcome Nottingham Forest. Before that, they meet Burnley in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday, live on InNewCL Sports.
