Liverpool owner John Henry says he is not selling the club but expects some investment in the Anfield side.
FSG chairman Tom Werner later said the club’s owners were “looking at a sale”.
But since then, in an interview with the Boston Sports Journal, Henry said, “Are we selling LFC? No.”
Henry made his comments in a question-and-answer session conducted via email with the Boston Sports Journal.
“Are you talking to investors about LFC? Yes. Will something happen there? I think so, but it won’t be a sale.”
FSG bought Liverpool for £300m following the tenure of former owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett.
American basketball star LeBron James has co-owned Liverpool since 2011 and has a 2% stake that cost him £4.7million.
He has since become a small shareholder in FSG, which includes the Boston Red Sox baseball team.
In March 2021, RedBird Capital Partners, a private investment firm, acquired a stake in FSGexternal link for around US$735m (£533m).
FSG has been open to investing in Liverpool and has recently engaged Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs in the process.
“Yes. I know there’s been a lot of talk and quoting about LFC (Liverpool Football Club) but I’ll stick to the facts: we’ve just formalized an ongoing process,” said Henry.
