Year after year we demand more and more features and functions from our devices for everyday use, but for some reason we like to leave the lamps off and do nothing but give light to ourselves? Lamp reckoning day is here as Lenovo has shown us just how much functionality is packed into its new Go Desk Station.
At first glance, the Lenovo Go Desk Station reminded us a lot of Dyson’s $600 Lightcycle lamp, which has a horizontal arm that can be raised and lowered or extended and retracted through a clever cantilever system, as well as automatic color temperature adjustments over time of the day when it is used. Lenovo’s lamp instead has an LED strip running along one arm, which can be rotated up to illuminate someone on a video call, or angled onto the surface of a desk.

Similar to the Dyson lamp, the Desk Station lamp also offers three color temperature settings for the LEDs – 3000K, 4500K and 6500K – to make it easier to adapt to the time of day. But much more useful for those who spend too much of their day on video calls is the 4K 30fps webcam with autofocus and auto-framing that helps keep the person the camera is pointed at in the frame, even if they’re moves.

The lamp essentially acts as a tripod for the webcam, making it easier to position than if it were standing on a monitor or laptop screen, and the webcam itself can either be attached to its own rotating arm or to the end of the lamp that is more illuminated Arm (to extend reach). Like the Desk Station’s LED strip, the camera can also be adjusted to point downward at a desk or table, making it easier to highlight a physical document or object during a video call without having to hold it up to the camera .

Even the base of the Lenovo Go Desk Station goes with a 20W USB-C port, a 65W USB-C port to power laptops, two USB-A ports, an HDMI port, and even more more than usual a fold-out wireless Qi charging pad with up to 15 W power output.
The lamp will be available next March for $329, and while you can purchase the included Lenovo Go 4K Pro webcam separately for $150, the Go Desk Station is only available bundled with the webcam.
