Jesse Marsch says Leeds expect youth white fan Erling Haaland to ’cause problems’ when they take on Manchester City on Wednesday.
City’s Premier League top scorer Haaland was born in Leeds when his father Alf Inge played for the club.
Marsch was previously Haaland’s manager at Red Bull Salzburg and says the Norwegian texted him ahead of City’s trip to Elland Road.
“He texted me as soon as the schedule came out,” Marsch said.
“I allowed him to get a small hamstring injury for this match!
“He was born in Leeds, his father has history here and that is why he has the club in his heart. When I got the job, he and his father supported me. We expect him to be fully prepared and that creates problems for us.”
Leeds are 15th in the Premier League after just four wins in the first part of the season before the World Cup break.
Marsch said the club have used the time to “invest in the team’s fitness”, adding that while some players have suffered minor injuries, progress has been made and the “team cohesion is strong”.
However, he admits Leeds face a “monumental task” if they welcome the Premier League champions.
“Right now we’re focusing on Man City. I would have hoped their players would progress further at the World Cup but it’s so competitive,” he said.
“They have a great squad and the best coach in the world.
“We are not afraid of the biggest opponents. We have shown that we can keep up and get points, but for that we need good plan and execution and we know that.”
