As NBA legend Magic Johnson put it, Mac McClung saved this year’s slam dunk contest. The two-way 76ers player, who played in the G League and was waiting for the call from an NBA team, impressed many with his dunks.
LeBron James even went so far as to say that the 24-year-old point guard has made his name one of the top slam dunk contestants of all time.
“He’s established himself as one of the biggest slam dunk contenders we’ve had in the history of the game,” James said of McClung. “Just some of the dunks he had didn’t come as a surprise to me, I’ve been seeing him as a high school sensation for quite a while and seeing him dunk the basketball.
“But some of the dunks he had were very unique. His hangtime, his swag, which he had out there too, was organic to him and it was pretty cool.
“You have guys like Vince [Carter]you have dominique [Wilkins], you got MJ, you got Aaron Gordon and Zach LaVine and Mac McClung after his performance last night some of the dunks he had could rival some of the biggest dunks to enter that court. It was pretty cool.”
