WBO cruiserweight champion Lawrence Okolie returns after almost a year without boxing.
Okolie has not boxed since he dropped and surpassed Michal Cieslak in February. But the heavy puncher from Hackney will now defend his WBO cruiserweight title in the UK in early 2023.
The WBO had ordered Okolie, now 18-0, to stage a mandatory belt defense against New Zealand’s David Light.

A Commonwealth Games silver medalist, Light earned his shot at the world title and went undefeated in the 20 fights of his professional career to date.
On Thursday, the WBO announced that Okolie and Light had reached an agreement between their teams. The fighters demanded the cancellation of the purse bids for their contest scheduled for Thursday. This request was granted.
Their teams have agreed that promoter BOXXER will hold the competition in the UK in March.
Richard Riakporhe says he would love an all-British clash against Lawrence Okolie in front of his loyal Crystal Palace fans
“BOXXER is pleased to confirm that it will be promoting the WBO cruiserweight world title fight between Lawrence Okolie and challenger David Light. Further details, including a venue for the competition, will follow in due course,” said a spokesman for BOXXER.
It will bring another exciting cruiserweight competition to InNewCL Sports.
Winning the WBO championship against Krzysztof Glowacki in a dominant performance last year, Okolie has twice defended the title in his rapid rise. He has established himself as the leading cruiserweight in Britain.
Chris Billam-Smith lands an explosive finish on Armend Xhoxhaj to knock out the Kosovar in round five.
But other exciting competitors are fighting for positions and want to fight for big honors themselves next year.
Fellow Londoner Richard Riakporhe has had two quality KO wins this year, stopping Deion Jumah and Fabio Turchi. He will box next month, facing former champion Glowacki on the undercard between Chris Eubank Jr. and Liam Smith. He wants this fight to set himself up for a title shot.
Chris Billam-Smith scored a thrilling KO win over Armend Xhoxhaj last weekend, also on InNewCL Sports. With a massive fan base in Bournemouth, he is determined to bring a world title fight to his hometown.
Cruiserweight is shaping up to be one of the most exciting divisions in British boxing in 2023.
