The New York Knicks ended their eight-game losing streak after a 113-106 loss to the Toronto Raptors last night. Tom Thibodeau’s Knicks are 18-14 so far this season and 8-2 in the last ten games. Jalen Brunson’s signing was beneficial for the Knicks. His (20.4) points per game is second on the team and his goals have opened the ground for other players to succeed. However, yesterday the league announced it will take away the second-round draft pick from Knicks in 2025 due to an investigation into Brunson’s signing.

The NBA announced Wednesday afternoon that the New York Knicks will lose their 2025 second-round pick as a direct result of a league investigation into teams’ summer signing of Jalen Brunson. They also announced that the Knicks were fully cooperating with the investigation.

Knicks lose the 2025 second-round pick for rigging the signing of Jalen Brunson

The 26-year-old PG was the Knicks’ big offseason signing this 0ffseason when they signed him to a four-year, $104 million deal. He joined a franchise where his family has many ties. A native of New Jersey, Brunson is close to home again. On top of that, the Knicks hired Brunson’s father Rick, who had previously worked under head coach Tom Thibodeau, as an assistant coach for the offseason.

For the Knicks and Brunson, the storyline continued to thicken. Leon Rose is the president of the New York Knicks and his extensive league career ironically began when he signed Rick Brunson as his first client and later did the same for Jalen. He had to leave Jalen when he became president of the Knicks, but Rose’s son Sam would soon become Brunson’s new agent.

To make matters worse, the Knicks even reached out to Brunson before June 30, and that went against league policy. The NBA released this statement yesterday.

“This finding reflected a finding following an investigation that the Knicks were involved in free-agency talks with Jalen Brunson before such talks were permitted,” – NBA

Losing the 2025 second-round pick doesn’t hurt the Knicks draft capital at all. Over the next seven seasons, the Knicks have 11 first-round and 9 second-round picks available.
