James Mangold revealed in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly that Helena, the character of Phoebe Waller-Bridge, is “a friend’s daughter of Indy’s” who “got herself in trouble.”
She is the daughter of a friend of Indy’s who we will also meet in the film. Helena got herself into a bit of trouble and brings [that] to Indy’s front door. She’s a character who’s wonderfully contradictory – charming and brilliant, but also a ton of trouble.
