Home iOS iPhone low battery? Do this to easily extend your iPhone battery life
Here’s how you can set your iPhone to automatically switch to sleep mode when the battery reaches a certain level.
Tired of constantly charging your iPhone throughout the day? Power saving mode is a useful feature that can help you extend the battery life of your device. In this article, we’ll show you how to set up the battery saver mode to turn on automatically when your iPhone’s battery reaches a certain level, so you can keep your phone powered on and ready to go.
What Is Power Saving Mode On iPhone And How Does It Work?
Battery Saver is a feature on your iPhone that allows you to extend the battery life of your iOS device when the battery is running low. When the feature is enabled, your iPhone reduces power consumption by turning off or disabling certain features that are known to consume a significant amount of battery power. This can be helpful for extending your device’s battery life when you need it most.

Once the power saving mode is activated, your iPhone will disable some of the features that consume more battery, such as If you own a Pro iPhone model like the iPhone 13 Pro or iPhone 14 Pro, your display’s refresh rate is also capped at 60Hz. Your device will also stop automatically downloading app updates, and CPU, GPU, and network maximum performance will be reduced to save energy.
Currently, you can enable battery saver mode by going to Settings → Battery or adding it to Control Center. Your iPhone may also prompt you to enter sleep mode when the battery reaches 20%. While these options can be helpful, they require manual intervention and may not activate with the desired battery level.
What is optimized battery charging and why should you keep it enabled on your devices?
Automate the sleep mode on your iPhone
Fortunately, there is a way to set up a sleep mode shortcut that will trigger automatically when the battery drops below a certain percentage, e.g. 25% or 30%. In addition, we’ll show you how to set up a shortcut that will turn off sleep mode when your battery reaches a certain level when you charge your iPhone, allowing features that were turned off while it was in sleep mode to continue. Here’s how you can do this using the Shortcuts app on your iPhone:
Activate sleep mode on your iPhone when the battery drops below a certain level
To get started, you need to open the Shortcuts app on your iPhone. If you don’t have the app installed, you can download it from the App Store. In the Shortcuts app, tap the Automation tab at the bottom. Now select Create Personal Automation. You will see a prompt on your iPhone. Scroll down and tap Battery Level. Now drag the slider and set the percentage at which you want the battery saver mode to activate and tap Next. We chose 30% as an example, but you can also trigger it at 50%. Below the slider, select Falls down [X%]. In this case, the power saving mode turns on automatically when the battery drops below 30%, ie to 29%. Now tap Add Action and select Set Power Saving Mode. Make sure the action says “Turn Low Power Mode On”. Tap Next. Disable the “Ask before running” switch. Alternatively, you can choose to have your iPhone send you a notification when the automation runs. This can serve as a helpful reminder to charge your device.
That’s it, you have successfully configured the automation. Power saving mode will automatically activate on your iPhone when the battery falls below the specified percentage.
Automatically turn off the power saving mode on your iPhone when the battery has reached a certain level
Open the Shortcuts app on your iPhone. Select the Automation tab again, and then select Create Personal Automation. If you’ve already created automations, tap the + icon in the top-right corner. Scroll down and tap Battery Level. Now drag the slider and set the battery level at which you want the battery saver to turn off and tap Next. Under the slider, select Increasing Up [X%]. In this case, the power saving mode turns off automatically when the battery drops over 35%, ie to 36%. On the next screen, tap Add Action and select Set Power Saving Mode. Make sure the action says “Turn off sleep mode”. Tap Next. Disable the “Ask before running” switch. Alternatively, you can choose to have your iPhone send you a notification when the automation runs.
With this automation, the battery saver mode will automatically turn off when the iPhone is charged to a certain level, allowing disabled functions to resume.
All in all, setting up sleep mode shortcuts on your iPhone can be a convenient way to ensure your device conserves battery life when it’s running low. By triggering the shortcut at a certain battery level, you can ensure that the battery saver mode is activated automatically without the need for manual intervention.
