Honda engineers at Honda Performance Development are working on a pretty insane project. The images you see above are of an 800hp Honda CR-V Hybrid race car. Yes, we’re talking 800 horsepower shoved into a Honda CR-V.

From what few teaser photos Honda has for us today, it looks like very little remains of this racer, which is actually a production CR-V hybrid. The rear taillights, front headlights, and front grille all look pulled from the street car, but everything else looks bespoke. Wilder Aero is the name of the game because this CR-V looks like it’s seriously glued to the ground with the huge wings and body kit.

We can’t say exactly what’s under the hood, but given that it’s a CR-V hybrid, an educated guess would suggest a supercharged engine is paired with multiple electric motors to combine the 800 horsepower, with that Honda boasts about. The SUV is being developed by Honda Performance Development engineers at the Auto Development Center. The design will be handled by the North American design department and the final product is scheduled to be unveiled on February 28th.
