MIES (Switzerland) – The next edition of the FIBA Intercontinental Cup will take place on February 10-12, 2023 and will see the champions of four regional club leagues – Lenovo Tenerife, Rio Grande Valley Vipers, São Paulo and US Monastir. in Tenerife, Spain to compete for the coveted trophy.
The event will be held at the Pabellon Insular Santiago Martin, the venue of the 2020 edition of the FIBA Intercontinental Cup as well as the 2018 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup Final and the Basketball Champions League Final Four in 2017.
The tournament’s host, reigning BCL champion Lenovo Tenerife, is hoping to add a third FIBA Intercontinental Cup title to its trophy case after topping the podium at both the 2017 and 2020 editions of the competition.
Rio Grande Valley Vipers, the 2022 NBA G League champions, are the only other contenders with prior experience of the event — and venue — having attended the 2020 edition, which was also held in Tenerife.

US Monastir will make history as the first-ever Tunisian club and only the second club from Africa after Egyptian Zamalek to take part in the FIBA Intercontinental Cup thanks to the amazing conquest of the BAL Trophy in 2022.
The Brazilian Sao Paulo, meanwhile, will land in Tenerife after proving he is a fearless newcomer as he is set to make his FIBA Intercontinental Cup debut after capturing the BCL Americas crown in his first-ever campaign at the competition Has.
“The FIBA Intercontinental Cup is at the forefront of FIBA’s strategic efforts to shape the landscape of international club competitions for the benefit of football worldwide,” commented FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis.
“This edition is only the second club tournament in basketball history to feature competitors from four different regional competitions, building on the success of last year’s landmark event in Egypt, the first ever hosted in Africa,” added Mr. Zagklis added.
The draw for the 32nd edition of the FIBA Intercontinental Cup will take place in early January 2023. The tournament begins on Friday 10th February 2023 when the two semi-finals take place and ends on Sunday 12th February 2023 with the final and 3rd place match.

At the 2022 edition in Cairo, Brazilian Flamengo became the first club outside of Europe and the United States to win multiple FIBA Intercontinental Cup titles after beating Spaniard San Pablo Burgos 75-62 in the final.
The most successful club in the history of the competition is Spanish giants Real Madrid, who have won the cup five times.
