While he spends much of the year away from home and competes on the ATP Tour, Felix Auger-Aliassime never feels too far removed from his roots.
The Canadian played his role in a team event double in 2022, leading Canada to victory at the ATP Cup and Davis Cup Finals. The pride Auger-Aliassime feels when he plays for his country maintains a connection he always felt between his childhood and his life as a professional.
“Growing up in Montreal, Canada back then was a great upbringing,” the 22-year-old said in a recent interview with the ATP Tour. “My father was and still is a tennis coach, so he brought tennis into the family for my sister and me. So we grew up playing tennis every day after school. I had this dream, I think, to be in the position that I am today.”

Auger-Aliassime is known for being cool, calm and collected on the pitch, even when push comes to shove. Netflix’s Break Point followed the Canadian during his 2022 Roland Garros campaign as he suffered an agonizing five-set loss in the fourth round to icon Rafael Nadal. The Spaniard lifted the trophy for the 14th time at the Clay Grand Slam.
Although Auger-Aliassime would have been on the verge of claiming a historic win against one of the greatest players in history, his mental approach ensures he doesn’t overreact to on-pitch disappointments, no matter how heartbreaking.
“You’re alone out there on the pitch,” Auger-Aliassime said. “There is only one who lifts the trophy, who leaves the tournament undefeated. It hardens your skin a lot.
“It has always been very important to me to keep an overview. I think it has helped my mental health tremendously. Always try to stay positive and think about how you can use these challenges to improve yourself.”
