iPhones tend to hold their value better than most other phones, but this latest example is one for the history books. A factory-sealed first-generation 2007 Apple iPhone fetched $63,356 at auction over the weekend.

The device in question is an Apple iPhone 8GB and had an MSRP of $599 as of June 2007. The auction ran from Feb. 2 with a starting bid of $2,500, which surpassed $60,000 over the weekend.

The phone also has an interesting history – its owner, Karen Green, was given it by her friends over fifteen years ago. The owner was a Verizon customer at the time, while the phone only ran on AT&T’s network, so it was quickly kept on a shelf and forgotten for over a decade.

The phone was then appraised at an estimated $5,000 in 2019 and eventually auctioned off earlier this month. Karen Green will reportedly use the funds from the auction to open a business venture.
