Former England rugby coach Eddie Jones has confirmed he has been approached by other associations since his sacking and insists he would have done “nothing differently” during his tenure.

Jones was sacked earlier this month but has been linked with other roles and RFU boss Bill Sweeney admitted he would be “amazed” if the Australian weren’t coaching one of England’s rivals at next year’s World Cup.

Jones confirmed on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme: “I have spoken to various people in various organizations about the possibility of joining their team in a capacity over the next 24 months.

“I’ve talked to other associations.”

Jones, 62, believes he has “one more job” in him but said coaching a rival is “not the most important thing”.

“I think I’ve trained well with England and I want to continue training,” he said. “It’s not about coaching an English rival, I want to add that to the game.

“As you get older you just want to leave things in a better place and I just want to share the great experiences I’ve had, particularly coaching players and teams.

“At the end of the day we want to see great rugby matches and if you have the opportunity to be there you are particularly lucky.”

Jones has been heavily linked with a return to Australia, which he coached from 2001-05. When asked about talks with Rugby Australia, he replied: “Never believe what you read in the newspapers.”

Jones: No Regrets in England | “I had the feeling that the dismissal was imminent”

It was England’s form in 2022, their worst in terms of results in 14 years, that led to Jones being sacked by the RFU earlier than expected after an anonymous panel of experts reviewed the overwhelming Autumn Nations series.

But Jones said he still believed England were “on the right track” before leaving.

“I wouldn’t do anything differently,” Jones said.

“I was pretty sure we were on the right track for the World Cup. And I still believe in it. But if others don’t share that, then that’s their choice.”

Jones was fired from the RFU on December 6 and replaced by his former assistant, Steve Borthwick.

“I could feel the change in the wind,” Jones added. “You know, after you’ve been training for a while, you can feel your support dropping. I had a feeling it was coming.

Jones left the role with the highest winning record of any England manager at 73 per cent, but that figure drops to 42 per cent in a dismal 2022 that consisted of six losses, one draw and five wins.

A Grand Slam, a Six Nations title and a World Cup finals appearance were among Jones’ early triumphs, but after Japan 2019 his win rate dropped to 65.

“We had a plan to reach our peak at the World Cup and unfortunately we didn’t have the opportunity to finish that,” said Jones

“I don’t regret anything I’ve done.”
