Damian Lillard scored 28 points for the Trail Blazers in the loss to the Thunder (121-123). He overtook Clyde Drexler as the franchise’s all-time top scorer.
After the game, the superstar admitted that this had been his goal for a long time, but that he would have preferred to win to reach the milestone.
“It’s a feat that came with a lot of losses and a lot of wins,” said the 32-year-old point guard. “I don’t want to not acknowledge it. It’s an honour, it’s a great feeling to reach the top.
“It was a goal of the times. The list has so many great players, the organization’s great history, somehow climbing it and being number one is a special achievement that I’m proud of.
“Grateful for all the people who have played a role as I have said over the past few days. But you want to enjoy the moment in a win.
“Even during tonight’s game I wasn’t focused on setting the record. I played the game just trying to win.”
