On Monday, Damian Lillard became the Portland Trail Blazers’ all-time leading scorer, overtaking Hall of Famer Clyde Drexler in a 123-121 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Drexler averaged 18,040 points in 867 games with Portland from 1983 to 1995. Lillard, 32, needed just 21 points to become the franchise leader in his 730th career game. The guard ranks 77th overall on the NBA’s all-time scorer list (18,048).

According to some NBA betting sites, the Trail Blazers have the 18th best odds with Damian Lillard to win the championship in 2023. Some sportsbooks show higher odds for the Dallas Mavericks and the Los Angeles Lakers.

The six-time All-Star finished with 28 points, three rebounds, six assists and a steal in 39 minutes of play. He finished 9 of 17 (52.9%) shots off the ground and 6 of 12 (50%) off the arc.

“It’s a great feeling to reach the top,” said Damian Lillard. “It was a goal of mine and the list has so many players, great history from our organization so it’s a special achievement to finally be number 1 that I’m proud of.”

Lillard needs 280 points to overtake Dave Bing (18,048) for 76th place in the league’s all-time scorer list. Glen Rice is 75th with 18,336 points and Julius Erving is 74th with 18,364.

In the 2018–19 season, Lillard averaged a career-high 2,067 points in 80 starts. He averaged 25.8 points per game and it was the only season the guard recorded at least 20 PPG while playing at least 80 games.

Last year, Lillard was selected to the NBA’s 75th anniversary team. Though he only made 29 starts with Portland in the 2021-22 season due to a stomach injury. And the guard has missed 12 games this season with a Grade 1 calf strain.

In 19 starts this season, Damian Lillard is averaging 28.3 points, 3.8 boards and 7.0 assists per game. Additionally, Weber State’s product has recorded five double-doubles. He also shoots 45.5% from the field and a career-best 40.4% from 3-point range.

“Even during tonight’s game, I wasn’t focused on setting the record,” Lillard said. “I played the game and tried to win. I knew it would happen eventually.”

If the 11-year veteran can stay healthy for the rest of the season, he will definitely climb up the NBA’s all-time scoring charts. By the middle of next season, Lillard should crack the top 50.
