Graham Potter left Brighton to become Chelsea manager in September
Former Chelsea goalkeeper Rob Green says the club’s manager Graham Potter is facing an “insurmountable situation” with his inflated squad.
The Blues have spent £583m on new players in the last two transfer windows under owner Todd Boehly, with eight signings arriving in January.
Chelsea have won two of their last 14 games and Green says fans are starting to turn on Potter.
“With the amount of players, it’s an unmanageable situation,” said Green.
Speaking on InNewCL Radio 5 Live’s Monday Night Club, Green added: “Once the crowd turns it gets ugly and players get affected and go in their shells.
“You can see that in the players, from the offensive perspective and then it becomes more difficult.”
Chelsea have struggled in front of goal and haven’t scored in a game since early November. Despite all their new signings, they failed to sign a recognized striker last month.
Former blues forward Chris Sutton says Potter “had a lot to do”.
“With so many players coming in, he’s not sure of his starting lineup, so he chopped and switched and you never get continuity when you do that,” Sutton said at the Monday Night Club.
“Goal scoring is a problem and he kicked out Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang so they don’t have a recognized striker.
“But I think it’s good that Todd Boehly supports him in the long term at first glance.
“They probably looked at Arsenal and what happened to Mikel Arteta, which is where all their fans wanted him out, but they stayed with them and look at where they are now.”
