2022 may be nearing its end, but the tech rumor mill is still churning. The latest buzz revolves around Apple TV and its imminent arrival on the Android platform.

A simple one tweet From a well-known leaker, ShrimpApplePro – the same account that tweeted yesterday’s Pixel tablet reveal – is suggesting that Apple will be releasing an official Android app for Apple TV+ content offerings “soon”. Apple Music is also apparently getting an update on Android for those tired of Spotify and YouTube Music. But beyond these arrival statements, there are no further details.

Currently, you cannot watch Apple TV+ content on an Android smartphone. In the Google ecosystem, this is only possible via Android TV/Google TV enabled televisions, streaming boxes and dongles. Android smartphones and tablets are not even listed as compatible devices on the Apple TV website.

Still, it’s not ridiculous to think that Apple is planning to expand its offerings here. After all, it’s another source of income, and many pundits and Android fans have written about what Apple would gain by pollinating outside of its walled garden. Bloomberg has reported that the company has been reluctant to do so in the past for fear it would hurt iPhone sales. But it’s a miracle if it didn’t give people more reason to consider switching platforms.

I hope that this kind of integration comes sooner rather than later. I recently decided to give Apple TV+ a try after realizing it’s the only way to add some Christmas classics to my list this season without scouring the internet. Admittedly, after winning the Oscar with CODA, I got more interested in Apple’s TV shows and movies.

Apple Music has also seen some interesting successes on the Android platform. It currently hovers at a cool 4.0 in the Play Store ratings, which isn’t a bad score. Based on the reviews, people seem to like the interface over Spotify, although they wish there were more populated playlists to choose from. Apple Music is currently the top rated Apple app for Android.
