Another shade of green will soon be added to the Porsche color palette. Essmann Green, which was available on new examples of the 911, 718 and Taycan, was originally a livery color commissioned by an enthusiast and the company liked it so much that they offered it to all of their customers.
Elektro Essmann managing director Michael Essmann first asked Porsche in 1992 to paint a car in the same color as the logo of his family company. The first Porsche model to be painted in today’s Essmann green was a 911 Carrera RS 3.6 of the 964 generation; There have been several others since then, including a 997-generation 911 GT3 RS and a 992-generation 911 GT3 Touring. Porsche finds that adding a new color to the palette is more labor-intensive than many realize; Essmann Green’s recipe requires the mixing of over 100 ingredients.
Interestingly, the company had to develop a new recipe to paint Essmann’s current generation 911. Prior to his most recent appointment, the color was last used on a 997-generation model built before Porsche modernized its paint shop. The recipe is now set in stone, it’s part of the Paint-to-Sample Plus selection, and this marks the first time a customer-commissioned paint has been offered to other buyers.
Assigned color code 24C, Essmann Green, will be available from March 2023. Prices have not yet been announced.
